In this room, the crown molding is painted white to match the walls, ceiling and baseboards, while the window and door moldings are painted black. Does the crown molding have to match the baseboards? – Not exactly, but it needs to have a similar visual weight. It looks funny to have large crown molding with tiny baseboards and vice versa. If you are going to upgrade to add crown molding and you have little 3-inch baseboards, you’ll want to replace those also with deeper ones.
